My Students

My students come from a high-poverty low-income community, but they do not let this hold them back. Some of my students' parents work two to three jobs to take care of the bare necessities of everyday life. While their parents want the very best for them, the extra things in life may not be readily available to them. This includes materials used to enhance education.

My students have faced many challenges in their young lives where school tends to be their only constant.

In our first grade classroom, we like to keep things exciting. There are a lot of important skills that my first graders need to master before they are ready for second grade. They love working with each other and learning new things!

My Project

Student will have access to books of the month that can be displayed on the bookshelf. This will give them easier access to the books in our classroom library. The seat will give them a spot to store more books throughout the classroom rather than limited the books to the shelves we currently have. My hope is by exposing students to move books through the display that this will help build their love for reading. Currently, we have daily read aloud. I would love to display the read aloud on the display shelf for students to have access to.
