Help me give my students a standardized assessment tool/test to identify and diagnose language and literacy disorders, including dyslexia, document patterns of relative strengths and weaknesses, and track changes in language and literacy skills over time.

My Students

My students are loveable, smart, amazing kids who want to share their thoughts with the world. This project also targets those students who are struggling with language, literacy, or social communication skills, but have not yet been identified.

All of my students are in special education and receive services to help them express themselves in a variety of ways so others can understand them.

When they are not understood, due to their ability to tell a story in a cohesive manner, their self-confidence can start to decrease as their social interactions with others is limited.

These students all have different needs but the one thing they have in common is their ability to want to interact, communicate, and succeed in school.

This project will foster the growth and development of students' literacy and/or language disorder. This project will help identify those students we suspect of having a language impairment, suspected of having a learning disability, specific reading disability, or dyslexia.

My Project

The school I serve deserve better. My students, and those who we suspect as having a language and literacy disorder, deserve better. The Test of Integrated Language and Literacy Skills (TILLS) will allow me to assess and compare the students’ oral and written language and literacy skills. The scores will help identify and track a student’s strengths and weaknesses to develop custom-tailored intervention to improve students’ overall communication skills.

My students deserve a more comprehensive and strong psychometric test to determine the presence of a language and literacy disorder and identify patterns of relative strength and weakness.

As a school-based speech language pathologist, I often find the standardized tests that I have available to administer to the students are sub par and do not accurately identify a language and literacy disorder. The TILLS is the only test that assesses both oral and written language with a unique framework that shows how these skills relate to each other.

With this donation, I am hopeful that our students will be identified accurately and receive the appropriate interventions in order to make progress in their language and/or literacy skills.
