Our school is located in rural Kentucky with around 500 students grades Kindergarten through 5th. We are a Title I school where every student is eligible for free breakfast and lunch.
At our school we have the motto of being 212 degrees.
This means doing your very best at everything you do, going the extra degree. The students know that at 211 degrees water is just hot but at 212 degrees is where it turns to steam and that can power so much. Our students are constantly going the extra degree in their learning as well as their manners. Our students are respectful, caring and kind. Our school is a wonderful place to learn and grow.
In my music classroom we focus on experiences to help us learn musical skills and concepts. My students love to sing, dance, and play instruments. I am always looking for new and creative methods for teaching my students about the power and joy of music.
My Project
My students love to play percussion instruments. We add instruments to songs and dances. I love to incorporate various instruments into songs to make stations and allow the students to rotate through so that they get a chance to learn about and play as many different instruments as possible. I added tambourines, castanets, finger cymbals, claves, and sand blocks to my list of desired instruments.
While my students take great care with their instruments some are over 20 years old or not quality instruments.
Through this project I would like to purchase some unique and quality instruments that my kids can learn about and play for many, many years to come.
