My Students

The world we live in is changing. Over 1/3 of my class is non-English speaking. I need more materials to reach out to these students, their families, and teach my English speaking students simultaneously.

For many of my students this is their first experience in public school.

My class is truly a multicultural setting, and I love it that way. The student population has changed a bit, and we have more Hispanic families than ever before. I need more materials to help these children, and at the same time, use the same materials to help ALL my children learn better English and the content required for Pre-K.

My Project

My students need 21 "Weekly Readers," 3 sets of bilingual books, and bilingual classroom labels, music and games to help us and our families learn more together. We will use these materials at school and I will also be sending the books, parent pages, and Weekly Readers home for students to use with their families. This means all 20 students will get a Weekly Reader each week to take home! One copy will be laminated and kept at school for students to revisit. I am also requesting sets of bilingual alphabet, math and Spanish fables to send home with students in a classroom library. Many of these families do not have educational materials, and many are in the process of learning English. The simple books will help them learn our language, and give them opportunity to read to their child. We will use the bi-lingual music, games, and classroom labels to not only help the teachers learn more Spanish, but to also create an environment that appreciates the diversity of our classroom. These materials will help our ESL students build confidence, and help our English speaking students learn a new language!

These materials will be used for several years, and you will never know the impact they will have, the impact YOU will have!
