A-B-C Interact With Me

Help me give my students autonomy with their education. With interactive notebooks my students will be able to see their progress throughout the year. They will also be able to learn their way by making their learning creative.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students have been identified with special learning needs and are participating in a resource program. Most are 3-4 grade levels and behind where they should be. They work hard and want to be successful in and out of the classroom. They will benefit from any support a donation could offer.

My students live in a low-income area with 98% qualifying for free lunch.

Most of my students live well below poverty so their parents do not have the means to support a Parent Teacher Association. Many activities and resources are funded directly by the teachers.

These exceptional students may learn differently; however, they are high achievers that never give up. The fight in them makes it easy to advocate for them to have the best.

My Project

My English language learners and special education students utilize an interactive notebook. Inside their notebook they manipulate new vocabulary. They learn the meanings of words using prefixes, suffixes, and root words. They write out connotative and denotative definitions. For example, when learning new vocabulary each word is colour coded. The color is associated with a part of speech. This helps my visual learners. It moves regular note-taking to somethign more colourful and easy to identify the bits and pieces of grammar. Students also do mini flip charts inside their notebooks. A word or phrase is on the top of the post it and underneath is the definition or sentence. Interactive notebooks are a colorful and easy way to manage loads of new information!
