This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Acquiring a new language requires the development of skills to better grasp proficiency and literacy. Students are encouraged to engage in conversations with peers while using the target language. Nevertheless, they lack a hands-on real-life experience when they embark on a new job that unfolds in a new setting. Also, amid the crossroads on our budget cuts from the district, we stand up and ask our community members to step in and help us to better engage and create a more welcoming and better-equipped classroom that students deserve.

The use of technology, like the Chromebooks paired with the acoustic desk dividers, in the target language will help better equip my students for the 21st-century landscape.

While engaging in technological communications (pen pal emailing, online learning software, audio listening, and real-life call center scenarios) students will acquire more confidence in the new language and will also sharpen their soft skills (writing emails, answering calls, recording) that will open a new horizon of opportunities for them to excel in school and life.

The ultimate goal of the World Language Lab is to foster a real-life learning environment where all World Language students can experience realistic scenarios in the target language that they are studying. This not only encourages students to learn a new language, but it also better equips them with the soft skills needed for the 21st-century job market that is in desperate need of bilingual workers. This lab will be used by not only me but also by my colleagues' students.
