My Project
As an honors English teacher, my goal is to challenge my students to think critically and engage with complex ideas. While traditional texts like Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet provide a foundation for examining themes such as love, conflict, and fate, I believe it is essential to enrich this exploration by introducing more contemporary works that offer new perspectives. By adding student choice in a novel to our unit on Romeo and Juliet, I aim to enhance my students’ understanding of universal themes and challenge them to think more deeply about the roles that love, society, and personal choice play in shaping individual lives. I hope to allow students to create reading circles and discuss one of these three books: Salems Lot, Delirium, or Master Slave Husband Wife, with each other (The students have already selected which book they want). With your support, I hope to create a more rigorous and engaging classroom experience that will foster both analytical skills and empathy in my students.
