My Students

My students are the sweetest, kindest 8th graders ever. They're super special because they come from all over the world from China to Uzbekistan to Yemen to Guatemala, and even Somalia. They have all found new homes and settled in Brooklyn, NY. When I walk into my classroom each morning and see so many countries of the world represented and I watch as they strive to learn English, become friends and learn about each other's cultures, it makes my heart explode with hope for the future of humanity and reminds me that this unity could only take place in The United States of America.

My Project

This magazine is fantastic! The articles are exciting and relevant and will help my 8th graders make good decisions out in the world. As an ELA teacher, kids are always asking me for reading that pertains to their lives and these stories fit the bill perfectly. From stress management to vaping, all of the articles connect to issues and real-life scenarios. Social emotional learning is vitally important in these trying times. Additionally, Scholastic will provide me with online resources that align to standards to utilize while we are in a remote environment.
