This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I’m excited to begin a new year at a new school. However, as I settle into my classroom, I’m seeing there is no classroom library, which is unfortunate for an English classroom. In order to share the love of reading with my 8th graders, I need good books! I only have the 20 or so that I’ve purchased myself, but I cannot afford to fund an entire classroom library for over 100 students. My students come from a variety of ethnic backgrounds, and most are currently reading below grade level. I know the power of a good book, and I want to share this power with my students to help them develop a love of reading and ultimately improve their reading ability.
Like many young Americans, my students need to see that reading can be fun and how it can also make a difference in people’s lives.
My Project
I would like to implement daily independent reading in my classroom, but in order to do so, I need a classroom library. My classroom didn’t have a single book in it when I arrived on site, so I’m hoping to raise enough money to bring books into my classroom.
We all know that it just takes one good book to hook a kid on reading, and I’m hoping to get all 103 of my students loving reading this year!
I need current, high interest books in order to foster a love of reading in my classroom, and these 2 class sets that I’ve picked out have the power to do so.
