Help me give my students STEAM challenges to learn the importance of testing independent variables and utilizing and developing problem solving skills. STEM challenges include egg drop using only straws, mouse trap cars, balloon cars, etc.
As an educator committed to fostering creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration, I have recognized the need for resources that allow students to explore and experiment with real-world problems. This grant would provide the materials necessary for my students to engage in hands-on activities that build knowledge and develop their problem-solving skills.
In the current educational landscape, students are often expected to absorb information passively.
However, I am convinced that for learning to be meaningful, it must be active and student-centered. With this grant, I aim to give all my students opportunities to have as many hands on activities using STEAM ideas and practices.
The materials provided by the grant will be used to facilitate several STEAM-based projects, including:
-Mouse Trap Cars: This project will challenge students to build a car powered by a mouse trap, allowing them to explore concepts of physics, engineering, and mechanics. By testing different designs and materials, students will learn about energy transfer and the scientific method.
-Egg Drops: Students will create contraptions to protect an egg from a high fall. This project promotes understanding of gravity, force, and the properties of materials, encouraging students to think innovatively and apply their math and science knowledge.
-Homemade Ice Cream: In this delicious chemistry experiment, students will investigate the freezing point depression and the effects of salt on ice. They will test the recipe to learn about chemical reactions and states of matter.
By providing my students with the resources to engage in these STEAM-based projects, I am confident that they will develop valuable problem-solving skills that will serve them well in their academic and future professional lives.
