My students need a classroom set of Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood. Most students read far below grade level, and this book will expose them to literature they are interested in.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"I did it!" Those are the words of my students as they cross every obstacle and barrier in their path. My students came into my 6th-grade classroom reading at the 2nd and 3rd-grade level. For the longest time they have felt that they cannot be exemplary so why bother to try. This year they have learned that with hard work and a positive attitude they can do anything they set their eyes on.

Nothing is impossible if you are given a chance.

My Project

With a large group of students reading far below grade level it is difficult to find age-appropriate quality literature for them to read that they will be excited about. My students have worked hard all year to grow their reading levels.

A class set of Persepolis books will not only help develop their literacy skills, but it will help foster a developing desire to read.

My students LOVE graphic novels, and Persoplis is more than that. It is a personal historical account. My students are not the biggest fans of non-fiction stories. Persoplis is perfect! It is a piece of non-fiction literature in their favorite genre.
