This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A typical day in my classroom is humming with laughter and learning. Not a day goes by where we are not excited about what the day will hold. My goal at the end of the school year is to prepare my 6th graders for a successful transition to middle school where they will continue to shine and learn.

My class is my pride and joy.

They are the leaders at my school and at the same time they need the support of those who believe in them academically, socially, and emotionally. Currently, at my school we have 100% of students receiving free or reduced meals. With a class size of 31 sixth graders, the room can get really crowded and our classroom resources limited or null.

My Project

My sixth grade class is requesting a class set of Yellow Star books by Jennifer Roy. Currently, we do not have the resources or the funds available to purchase the books. We are in need of these books because this upcoming March we will attend the LA Holocaust Museum. As their teacher, I would like to expose my students to the history and literature associated with the subject matter. If we get these books, my students will be able to look at history unraveled and how equity and access was difficult in the past but now must be attainable for everyone. My goal for the class is for each student to learn about the holocaust and create a classroom mural showcasing what they learned and the impact it has on their lives and in their world.

This project will make a difference in the lives of my students because they will have the opportunity to read about the injustices that occurred during the holocaust and be able to take the knowledge that they have learned and share it with people around them.

These books have the power to change and impact their lives by developing empathy and compassion for others. Please help me purchase these books and together we can make a positive difference in the lives of these sixth graders.
