This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 6th grade. Whenever possible, I arrange for children's authors to visit our school. Last week, an author spoke to the 4th, 5th and 6th grades about a series of best-selling children's books. Our students are all fired up to read the books but cannot afford to buy them. Please help!

The book series is Erin Hunter's 'Warrior' series.

There are 28 books in the series to date. They chronicle the adventures of a clan of wild cats. These books appeal strongly to students aged 10-14. The series is famous. You can find extra information about Warriors online. The 4th, 5th and 6th grade loved last week's presentation. They want to read the books but the school library does not have any copies, the public library does not have any copies and they do not have enough money to buy them. Our school is a Title I school. Most of our families are financially challenged. We have a large immigrant and special education population. Our kids need help.

My Project

My idea is to buy the school copies of every Warriors book. There are 28 books in all. The 4th, 5th and 6th graders will be allowed to borrow these books. There are approximately one hundred students in each grade. If 20% of the children in these grades were to read the Warriors books, this project would help 60 people.

The children are very keen to read these books but have no way of obtaining them.

The books are not available in local libraries and our students do not have the funds to purchase them. The children are, however, desperate to read Warriors. Please help me make a true success of the author visit. Help me feed these youngsters' appetite for reading!
