My Project
I am a firm believe that students like and learn science when able to conduct hands on labs and experiments. Many of the lab materials I use each year are one time use items and need to be disposed of. So, I need replacements. Every year I have students engineer cell models, a pizza box solar oven, a model of the water cycle, conduct labs on the types of energy (electrical, light, sound, thermal, kinetic/potential, and mechanical), making clouds in a bottle, density and ocean currents labs, convection currents in the air lab, genetics labs, etc. SO many labs equals so many fun learning opportunities. The vinegar, salt, air pumps, saran wrap, foil pans, energy sticks....... all go towards these labs. My students love lab time but I can only do labs that I have supplies for. Please help my students to be engaged and love to learn science.
In addition to teaching science, I love to do novel studies in my class at the end of the day.
I require my students to jot down notes on sticky notes inside of their novels. They get excited to see how many notes they have taken and how they have interacted with the novel. It is awesome and it takes a lot of sticky notes. For some of my students, it is the first time that they have put forth so much effort into reading and understanding a novel. The dry erase markers are used for whiteboards when we do "battle of the books" type of questioning at the end of each chapter. I need a lot of dry erase markers.
