My Students

Do you remember how great it was to be selected to present your Science Investigation at your schools science fair? Some of today's greatest scientists once stood in their schools gym behind a Tri-fold board ready to present their project. I hope to give my students the same opportunity!

My students are 6th and 7th grade scientists.

They are very inquisitive and love exploring the world around them. Most of my students live a long distance from school and use public transportation to get here. They have limited access to printers in their homes and wait a long time to use the computers in the public library. Our school is a Title I school serving inner city students. 85% of my students receive free or reduced lunch and do not have the means to access and print out their research and data they have collected for their Science Fair project. We are a small middle school and high school. The middle school supports a little over 320 students. There are only three working printers for the entire school including the high school. Most of the time the printers are in use by a teacher or student or simply out of ink. We need our own printer/copier and some ink cartridges.

My Project

My students are excited to present their projects to their parents and classmates. They have been working so hard on their experiments for a couple of months. They have been busy doing research on their individual questions and coming up with their own hypotheses. They have collected their data and typed up their conclusions. The one thing they have yet to do is print out any of their work. Some examples of students' projects include: What effect does music have on behavior? What effect do detergents have on plant growth? Does height effect your ability to shoot free throws? How does the size of a wing on a straw rocket effect the distance it will travel?

By having a printer my students will have the opportunity to print out all their work and get the opportunity to show the entire school and their parents all the hard work they have put into their scientific investigations.
