Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Help us explore Planet Earth! Teaching 6th grade students in a Texas urban school about earth science, rocks and minerals can be difficult without hands on examples. Our students have limited experience outside their neighborhood. Science ROCKS when we do hands on labs.
Our urban school has a significant low SES population with limited life experiences outside their neighborhood.
Bringing the outside world into the classroom is essential to their learning. They love science and learning.
My Project
My students have very little hands on experience with earth science topics including Earth's surface and rocks/minerals. These state objectives continue to show as areas of need in our state assessment scores. Hands-on materials will help students really "see" the earth's changing surface. Students will do experiments to identify the rock and mineral samples and explain how they formed. My students need these rock and mineral samples and test kits.
You support will make it possible for students from a low income area, with very limited life experiences to participate in hands-on activities that build their understanding of the world they live in.
Your help will reach a minimum of 400 students who will take this new learning forward to their upper level courses. It is my goal to inspire students to pursue science careers and with your support this will be possible
