Help me give my students access to new books in which they can see themselves and look into other perspectives through books that feature characters different from them.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
This next school year, we are focusing on closing the achievement gap and creating a school full of confident, successful students. Our 6th grade English teachers are working to grow the class sets available for novel studies, literature circles, and book clubs. Participating in novel studies, literature circles, and book clubs will increase student vocabulary and will help them prepare to close the achievement gap while also preparing them for the 7th grade.
Having an entire class set will be a great way to have enough books for either a novel study, literature circle, or a book club pick.
Students of all reading levels can be together reading the same book. These books will allow students of all reading levels to each have their own copy of the books. Our students love learning new things and they also enjoy building a community together. We want to encourage new friendships and new perspectives.
By participating in novel studies, literature circles, and book clubs, students will have the opportunity to work together which will encourage these new friendships and perspectives which in turn build community amongst all students.
