Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Amazing, energetic, eager, appreciative and motivated are just some words to describe my six grade students. My students come to school from high-poverty homes which can be a challenge in helping them learn and understanding math. They are also challenged with language barriers and strive on having materials to help support their language needs. They also need hands-on, engaging materials to help teach rigorous math skills. I know by giving my students the right tools they will soar to understand math and other life skills they need.
My Project
This project is very special to me. I teach 70 or more grade 6 students, in the content area of math. Teaching math is my passion and my goal is to ignite a love of math to my students. This project is one way that can help me assist to build a positive, active learning environment. My students thrive on hands-on materials and need tools to help assist with language barriers. Having math manipulatives and tangible tools in the classroom will give my students more ways to learn math in my classroom.
I will use these materials to create a balance math class where students are actively engaged in different center-based activities.
This will help with differentiating my instruction. allow me time to work with small groups and provide students to use technology to access language they may not have.
