My Students

As 5th grade comes to a close in an unprecedented way, teachers and counselors are already busy planning for the next school year when we all can connect with one another again.

During the 2019-20 academic year, ZEF graciously funded my small groups called Creators Club.

This small group worked with 8-10 fifth graders at a time and discussed topics like: locker organization, stressing less techniques, anger management, friendship skills, and growth mindset. To apply the skills, we would do a craft to match what was being taught which is where funding for materials are needed. Activities we did were: nailed stringed art, canvas slogans, acrylic pour, pom pom rugs, pony bead bracelets and more.

These small groups served a few purposes: students getting to know other 5th graders, me getting to know my students, and students receiving skills training in a targeted area.

I understand the climate we are in and hesitant to ask right now because of the uncertain financial situation for some of our families. Though, if you are able to give funding for 6th grade small groups this will help with planning to provide an enriching activity for my students.

My Project

Small groups of 8-10 sixth grade students can work during lunch and recess to strengthen their skill set. These groups meet for 4 weeks at a time. Students are selected through self-referral, parent, or teacher. After receiving lessons on a targeted skill, students will use the crafting items I am asking for to apply their newly learned skill.

Students will have fun connecting with 6th grade peers while building skills in the area of growth mindset, friendships, and stressing less to name a few.

Then, apply their new skill through crafting!

After attending all 4 weeks, students come to know one another and have the confidence to apply the skills they have learned.
