My Students

I have 22 vivacious learners in my classroom. At our school, students from diverse backgrounds come together to learn. My students have a variety of interests including singing, dancing, reading, exploring, and doing science. My students face great challenges in coming to school. Many of my students receive free or reduced price lunch, and most come from Worcester, MA. Worcester is an old industrial city which is the second largest city in Massachusetts. My students do not live in ideal circumstances. I hope to empower my students through education.

In the words of Nelson Mandela, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

My students are able to work independently, producing quality work, while I rotate with small reading groups. Our school uses a way to teaching reading and writing called Daily 5. This model of teaching and learning is incredibly effective. However, the students get very antsy during this lengthy block of time.

My Project

The tablets will be used in a variety of ways.

In math, students can practice math facts and play math games in a child-friendly format that make students want to study math.

In reading, students can read books online that we might not otherwise be able to afford for the classroom. In addition, many books online come with an audio format so that pre-readers can learn to read books of interest.

For brain breaks, students can play mini-games or take mindfulness breaks on websites such as go noodle.

Finally, use of these tablets will further my student's roles as leaders in a technological age. They will be in high demand when seeking a career and they will have a love of math and reading to lead them to any path they desire.
