5th Graders Fall in Love . . . with Reading!

Help me give my students the chance to fall in love with reading! Horizon books series will captivate my students and show them they do not need electronics to escape into a world of SciFi adventure!

My Students

My fifth graders are at the perfect point in their lives to fall in love with reading. The students are fluent in reading and ready to read chapter books with a strong story line.

My students are ready for books that pull at heart strings, books with high stakes plot twist, and books with mystery and adventure!

They are still kids, but are eager to be mature tweens and teenagers. They are ready to take it up a notch and learn to escape into a good book!

My Project

Studies have shown that reading not only improves vocabulary, it can help students in all subject areas. Fifth grade is the perfect time to teach students to fall in love with reading. Twenty-first century learners are computer savvy, but are they book savvy? We need to get up-to-date, cutting edge books, by the best authors into the hands of our students. With this book order, I will be able to do just that.

This order contains a mix of genres including fantasy, biography, mystery, science fiction, historical fiction, and realistic fiction.

I would like to do book club groups with these books and then have the students present their book reviews to the class. The presentations will spark other students' interest in the book or the genre. I purposely chose many books that belong in a books series, hoping to catch the students attention and crave more.
