Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The majority of my students come from low-income households, which means back to school can be a stressful time. During Open House in August, students will receive lengthy school supply lists with supplies that families are expected to provide on the first day of school. This is unfair to ask of families who are already going above and beyond to provide for their children. I want my students to arrive on the first day of school ready to conquer the school year, not feeling anxious about having the correct supplies.
No family should have to worry about providing their student with school supplies.
This project, by providing my students with the necessary supplies such as pencils, glue sticks, and folders, will help me shift the focus back to academic growth and relationships. The folders will serve as a place for students to house their unfinished work as well as resources to complete their work (a character traits sheet in their reading folder, a map in their science folder, etc). Wipes and tissues are necessary to ensure we can stay healthy. Whiteboard markers are used daily for science/math review. Once funded, this project will give me the opportunity to provide all of my students with the school supplies they need for a successful 2025-2026 school year.
