I teach 5th grade in Burlington, North Carolina. My school serves a diverse group of students, as a result, we have students from various socioeconomic groups. We live in a small town with students coming from various backgrounds, experiences, and learning styles.
My inquisitive 5th grade students love to learn about and research the world around them.
They are very a curious group of scholars that want to learn about more about our science units of study. My students are in need of hands on science materials and science reading material to bring our curriculum to life. Students learn significantly more when they can engage with and observe the content they're learning about. My students could benefit from resources that allow them to experience, experiment, and manipulate the science content in our 5th grade science curriculum.
My Project
Throughout our school year, my 5th grade students study the following topics: changes in matter, transfer of energy, weather, force and motion, cells and organisms, human body systems, and ecosystems. With a packed science curriculum, my students need hands on materials and additional science text that supports their learning. The more my students can experience and observe, the better they will be able to understand what they're learning about.
With these resources, my students can connect their learning to real world experiences and observations.
They will be able to conduct experiments on matter, weather, and forces and motion. My students will use the science books to research the animals and plants that inhabit the different ecosystems on earth.
