Our two fifth grade classes at Hawes School do lots of essays and reports, which the kids then rewrite on the computer for their final copies. Presently, classes have to send the reports to a shared printer in the staff room. When there are a lot of things being printed, there are always glitches between the room and the staff room printer. Sometimes paper is out or there is a jam, and the teacher cannot leave her/his room to check or repair the problem.
The teachers would each like to have a small desktop black and white, net workable laser printer in their rooms for easy access and the ability for students to print and have instant access to their papers; to be able to check over them, edit them and redo them if necessary.
Hawes is a small K-5 neighborhood school in the Redwood City School District in California. We have a population that is 80% Hispanic, with 76% of our students receiving free and reduced lunches. Our school budget is small and does not allow us to buy such luxuries, like printers for each classroom. Fulfilling the wishes of these teachers will help with student success in the areas of writing and word processing.
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
