I teach 5th grade special education. This is my first year in 5th grade and I am SO LUCKY to have such a great group as I tackle this new adventure. We laugh, make mistakes, we learn, and grow as a group.
"I'm not here to be great, I am here to be AWESOME!" This quote can be found around every corner in our school and we live up to that standard.
We a truly a close community that believes and supports each other. I am lucky to be just a small portion of that community!
My Project
First to Fifth! I am a first year fifth grade special education teacher transferring after 4 years in kindergarten and first grade special education. I am looking to add 2 more ball chairs to our room to allow each student to have the opportunity to move and learn. Students enjoy the movement allowing them to focus more on the academics noise free. The carpets under them help to eliminate noise also and allow a texture change for students.
Osmo allows students to self error correct with immediate feedback.
This boosts confidence and error correction awareness. Osmo works with our school iPads through a mirror image. Students work through different levels of math skills, starting basic with addition and move through to more difficult skills, such as multiplication and division. My students are currently working to math facts and multiplication.
The Math Discovery Cans and games allow students to work on a specific area they are having difficulty in. They can work independent or with a friend. These discovery cans come in fractions, measurements, volume, multiplication and division, angles, place value, and decimals. I hope to use these in homeroom each day when students have time to practice different skills. I also hope to use them during small group activities, allowing students to practice skills specific to their needs.
