This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am seeking to supply my 5th grade classroom with essential hygienic supplies such as deodorant wipes, menstrual products, all-purpose cleaning wipes, hand sanitizer, tissues, and much more. Since 5th grade is also a common time for body and hormonal changes to begin, I plan to keep specific hygienic supplies on hand in the classroom to aid in the discomfort of such changes.

Many of my students do not have consistent access to these hygienic supplies outside of school which makes it all the more crucial to have such supplies in my classroom.

These hygienic supplies ensure that students are feeling fresh, healthy, and supported by the educational community while at school. When students have their physiological demands met, they perform higher in school. Having these supplies accessible within the classroom when they may not be accessible outside of school allows students to feel supported as human beings and as learners.

I have seen firsthand in my previous teaching internship experience just how relieving it is to have such supplies available for similarly-aged students. With this in mind, I hope my future 5th graders feel supported and have their needs met so we can create a stronger, healthier classroom learning community.
