5th Grade Chess Club!

My Students

I love my job! And I absolutely love my students. They are passionate, driven, hardworking, and always eager to learn new things. Our school, however, is a lower income school with limited resources. Many of the students come to school with the weight of the world on their shoulders. Despite this, all of my students have dreams, aspirations and goals that they are constantly striving for.

The world is truly a better place with my 5th grade students in it.

My Project

The game of chess is so much more than just a game. It is a critical thinking, analytical, patience building experience! I would love nothing more than to begin a chess club, with 10 new chess sets, for all of our 5th grade students. Many of our learners have never, and will never, learn how to play chess outside of school. Not only will the club enlighten and grow their minds, it will allow them the opportunity to be a part of something bigger than their own world can offer. My hope is that they will understand not only the fundamentals of the game, but also how to be positive and encouraging team players.
