This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As an educator who loves learning new things, I believe it is essential to share that love for learning with my students. I love to share how they can achieve great success by learning through one another. Providing students with opportunities to read books that have diverse backgrounds and upbringings, allows room for creative discussions based on differences and similarities. These sets of books will help bring more variety to this year's book club selections.
Last school year, I implemented several chapter books that we read as a class and discussed the various lessons and themes we learned from each book.
These books include Wonder, A Series of Unfortunate Events: Book 1, Esperanza Rising, Bud, Not Buddy, and Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. My students loved to read these books and were excited to have the opportunity to share what they thought about each chapter with their classmates. I provided students with opportunities to complete group projects, use graphic organizers to summarize chapters, write book reviews, create art designs, and share their perspectives on how they relate to the characters in the books.
