My students are Pre-K/EC and their age ranges from 3-5. They class is blended with children with different types of special needs (Autism, Developmental Delays, fine and gross motor delays, Speech Delay, and other Disorders). All of the students have some type of language and communication deficits. The students have difficulty understanding language and communicating their wants and needs. We use several augmentative communication devices, sign language to communicate, and picture symbols.
The school is a Title I school with 100% of the students on free and reduced lunch.
Most of the parents are single parents, which leaves little money to help with materials needed in the classroom.
My Project
We have 5 Pre-K classes at our school. Our students need an engaging area during outside play. The older students at the school have designated playground areas they use daily. However, the Pre-k students have very little items that they are able to play with outside.
Outside play is very important for our Pre-K students because this is where they learn most of their social skills.
Having the Playhouse, Picnic Tables, and Sand Table will enable the students to have fun while learning needed social skills. The typical and special education Pre-K students will be able to play together and learn from each other.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
