This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is in the heart of Queens, and as a result my students come from all over the world. Many of these children are learning English for the first time, and as a result struggle academically which can hurt their confidence and love of learning.
This is where I come in!
With me, students are able to show what they can do through technology! As the technology teacher my students have access to software that allows them to present what they are learning with their classroom teachers in many different ways; instead of just writing an essay or book report. Students have made animated PowerPoints teaching various math skills, they have created comics retelling their favorite stories or teaching other children how to make good choices online, they teach about history and culture by making movies and news reports. This keeps my young learners engaged, confident and eager to learn, no matter what core subject is being taught!
My Project
These headphone splitters will allow groups of up to 5 students listen to the same computer at once when working on projects.
Several of these projects require students to watch and make videos.
They will learn about important moments in history with their classroom teachers, and come to me to bring their learning to life!
The students enjoy making movies teaching about what they are learning, but with only one headphone per computer it can be a challenge. Project time will either be very loud as students unplug their headphones so they can all listen, which makes it difficult to focus, or they will listen one by one which wastes time they could otherwise be using to learn or create.
These splitters will remove those obstacles by allowing up to 5 students at a time to listen in on the work being done, freeing them up to do research, and get creative in a more manageable and time friendly manner!
Nearly all students from low‑income households
