My Students
I have a great class of kids in a small town in northern Utah. They love to learn and come to school everyday excited for school. We have a high percentage of kids who live below the poverty line. Funds for the class are limited and hard to come by especially for the sciences. My kids love learning about the different concepts in science. They need hands-on activities though to maximize their learning potential. There are some great resources out there, but they are expensive.
They are wonderful and bright students who need all the advantages of a well funded education.
I am positive that if given the opportunity to take science learning to the next level, they will rise to the occasion.
My Project
Technology is needed in every classroom. It helps enhance teacher instruction, increase the effectiveness of the feedback student and educator get back, and engages the learner in all the possibilities that technology can visually and otherwise offer. One of the setbacks to having technology in today's classrooms is the cost of purchasing the best devices and software and maintaining them as they get older and newer models take their place.
My classroom needs new iPads to replace the old ones, which are no longer functioning very well and have become outdated.
We use the iPads for small group instruction in math, reading, and sometimes science, as well as occasional lessons in whole class instruction. They have become a vital part of our classroom as they engage our students with the math and reading apps we utilize to supplement instruction. They also help us track student progress as they master certain math concepts and reading levels.
Having today's students exposed to the richness of technological devices helps their cognitive skills and develops their innovative tendencies, which has become increasingly apparent in the rising generations.
