Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are an incredible group of 4th graders that love to learn. They are kind, supportive of each other, push their thinking and truly enjoy the learning process. I teach at a Title One School. My students are primarily English Language Learners and receive free or reduced lunch. They often times do not get to have the experiences that are needed to make connections among the world.

My students work extremely hard and have a passion for learning.

They are always pushing themselves to achieve more than they thought they could ever do. Being able to bring them the joys of learning has made them want to become the next doctor, lawyer, veterinarian, teacher, and many other careers. I push them to believe that they can be WHATEVER they want, even if people say they can't. With their hopes and dreams, the visions they have for themselves are inspiring and I couldn't be more proud of them.

My Project

Sitting in a chair all day while trying to learn can be really tough for some students. Out are the days where kids are restricted to sitting in their seats at their desk to do work. The more relaxed my students are better they work both collaboratively and independently. The freedom to choose their seats and working places within the classroom allow students to be creative without the restraints of being seated in the same spot.

Not all students learn the same way.

My job is to harness the love for learning in all my students using differentiation. Seating should be a choice and different for all students. Why not allow them to stand on balancing pods while working on writing? Or to sit in bungee chairs during independent reading? Wobble chairs for science projects? They are more focused when given the opportunity to have comfort while learning.
