My Students

I believe every child deserves the opportunity for an excellent education, and I am proud to partner with my school, other educators, families, and community leaders to strive toward this goal. I teach in a high poverty school zone in which 100% of our students receive free breakfast and 85% receive free or reduced lunch. These amazing students need additional support because most of them come from low-income single family households of which many have little to no support or resources. Despite some of the challenges they face in and around their environment, every year my students come to school excited, full of life and eager to learn.

Each day I attempt to continue to significantly impact the life trajectories of students in this local areas high-needs community.

My Project

Jennifer Serravallo's Go-To Books reading collections for writing are carefully selected mentor text that expose students to various genre's. This collections contain Jen's top picks in fiction and nonfiction which enables students to be exposed to various genres of reading.

The collection will allow students to hear what good writing sounds like, which will essentially equipped students with the skills necessary to transfer appropriate writing to paper.

This collection of books will be used to implement my writing workshop which will create good readers, listeners and effective writers.

I use The Writing Strategies Book written by Jennifer Seravallo, to teach key writing strategies. The texts included in the Go-To Books will lend itself nicely to the strategies students will be learning and practicing to become exceptional writers! The collection will provide countless opportunities for both whole and small groups strategy lessons in writing. This will expose my students to text that they should see in fourth grade and beyond. Will you help me give my students the reading and writing materials they need to be successful in fourth Grade?
