My students need ways to learn mathematics skills through the use of technology and interactive software. We are hands-on learners and also need to use manipulatives.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Arithmetic is being able to count up to twenty without taking off your shoes." - Mickey Mouse
Do you remember the first time you were asked to do a Math problem that you just weren't sure how to solve without counting on your fingers?
Who are my students?...to describe them in a few words, they are dreamers, role models, friends, joyous, loving, passionate, and believers.
My students are amazing, young children who haven't been able to experience all life has to offer. Most are on free or reduced lunch and have parents that work incredibly long hours to provide for their families. I teach many English Language Learners at a Title 1 school and have many families that speak another language at home besides English.
No matter what is put in front of my students, they truly are remarkable and always do their best in every situation. They don't reach their fullest potential from worksheets or text books. They create, discover, analyze, experiment, justify, explore, and observe to show learning and understanding. I push them to learn "outside" the box and they push themselves to get the best education they deserve.
My Project
If given the chance to have these resources, my students would benefit tremendously. As English Language Learners, they learn by using different intelligences, use manipulatives and need other ways to learn besides a text book and worksheet. These children have entered a technological era and it is required that technology is incorporated into each lesson.
We as teachers need to engage students 8 hours out of every day and need a variety of teaching materials to do so. These materials will allow me to differentiate my instruction so every child can have success in their own learning. Building a solid foundation is the key to being able to improve and master concepts that will allow them to be successful in the upcoming grades and life.
These different math activities and interactive mathematical software will help my students build their background knowledge. I will be able to use them as centers and focus on students who are struggling with different concepts.
These resources will help my very special students grow and master concepts needed to pass their SOL tests this May.
They will bring the love of learning into the classroom and give my students the drive to want to learn! The resources will impact their learning in ways that will show positive growth and show improvements in our school data.
