Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My 20 students are members of a third grade inclusion classroom in the middle of a large city. Inclusion classrooms in our district combine general education students (75%) and students with special needs (25%). Together, these diverse learners tackle grade-level content and standards.
They are eager to explore new academic content each day, and they learn best through hands-on experiences.
I am eager to build a comfortable and inspiring classroom environment, where students feel cared for and are engaged in learning.
My Project
Weekly news magazine deliveries will allow students (and families) to explore current events. As a whole group, we will discuss each week's major topic and respond to relevant writing prompts (opinion, evidence-based reasoning, compare and contrast) and explore non-fiction text features.
Students will be excited by the opportunity to learn from their very own copy of a real news source.
Every Friday, kids will take their magazines home to keep and to share with friends and family.
Relevant political and economic topics will motivate place-based learning experiences and will show students the power of their own voices, contributing to an end of year public speaking project.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
