I have the great privilege of teaching third grade in a rural, small-town, K-12 school. I have 30 unique students in my class who come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Despite all of the differences in their backgrounds, when my students walk through the door of our classroom, they walk into a community; they walk into their community.
My classroom is a place where life happens: community happens, growth happens, friendships happen, and learning happens.
My students are always eager to learn and they love to be challenged. I am constantly trying to find new ways to engage their minds and their bodies in learning. In a small school district with somewhat limited funding, I am grateful for the chance to create opportunities for my students that they might not otherwise get.
My Project
After two years of teaching fifth grade, I am excited to switch gears and move on down to third grade for this upcoming school year! I am so grateful that most of the things in my classroom can be used at the third grade level so that I don't have to start from scratch and completely recreate my classroom. As I have been preparing for school to begin though, I have thought of a few items that I feel my third graders will need in order to best succeed.
These items will set my students up for success while motivating them to do their very best!
The stability balls, pillows, and stool will be used as flexible seating options for my students. It is so important for students to be able to work where they learn best, and by providing my students with more seating options I am able to better meet more of their needs.
The emoji keychains, Play Doh, Flarp, candy, and other prize items will all go straight into my class store! Through our Classroom Economy system, my students work hard to earn and save money. After paying their rent each month, they are able to shop at our class store. While I still have many items left over from my fifth grade store, I want to motivate my third graders by providing them with rewards that are a better fit for their age. This will inspire them to work hard to earn money, and it will teach them the importance of saving money. These items will motivate my students to do their best!
Thank you so much for partnering with me as I get ready for a new year with a new group of kids! I appreciate you all so very much!
