My Project
Our mission is to provide an engaging, dynamic, and active learning environment that empowers students to reach their fullest potential. In line with this vision, I propose an innovative plan to utilize the grant funds to create a library for my 3rd grade classroom. My vision is to establish a model for effective active learning environments, fostering creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and literacy skills among our students. That starts by getting the students engaged in their learning development.
In the 2023-2024 school year, our school received a C overall on the state report card.
Our school also received a C in Academic Achievement, C in Academic Growth, C in English Language Proficiency Progress, and a D in Chronic Absenteeism. According to OSTP ELA scores, 11% were advanced, 42% were proficient, 24% were basic, and 23% were below basic. Bishop has continued to stay above the state average in every category, but has continuously declined in every category since the 2017-2018 school year. Research indicates that classroom libraries strongly promote ELA skills (NCTE 2021). They provide a wide range of reading materials that promote literacy skills, including reading comprehension, vocabulary, and writing.
By reconfiguring existing spaces and allocating funds to purchase flexible furniture, books, and other necessary resources, we would improve our learning environment in my 3rd grade classroom. With the overall goal of promoting Oklahoma Academic Standards and improving OSTP scores. According to the OSTP Testing Blueprint, the annual assessment is broken up into five standards: Standard 2 (38-42%), Standard 3 (12-18%), Standard 4 (22-26%), Standard 5 (12-18%), and Standard 6 (12-18%).
By implementing this classroom library in my 3rd-grade classroom, our schools will transform into a vibrant, active learning environment where students are inspired to explore, discover, and engage in literacy.
