My students need 3 tablets for 3D math workstations in my class to facilitate the use of "Augmented Reality" apps and for group work on collaborative, white boards apps.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Watson's classroom raised $963
This project is fully funded
My Students
My students, despite being predominantly low-income, are still very use to seeing and touching digital screens. This medium, that they are already so familiar with and attracted to is not a tool that I have in my classroom for teaching.
Our kids are from Richmond, Va in a specialty school that draws them from every region of our city; many come from public housing projects with 65-75% receiving free and reduced lunches.
Despite the difficulties that many face at home, our kids are like any other kids you have ever met. They like to laugh at funny things; they like to learn when the content is engaging; they cannot wait to get out of your classroom on Monday and on Tuesday they wont leave it.
My Project
I am a technophile and I want my kids to love technology too. Our tablets will let us use "Augmented Reality" apps in class to 'tie' 3D objects or layers of information to things in the real world. For example, a 6th grader working a problem involving the Statue of Liberty might scan an accompanying map of New York. The statue pops-out in 3D with key dimension labeled.
Students will use collaborative white-board apps to show their math work, while another group watches for mistakes on their own tablet; one group can make corrections for all to see. Because boards are linked, another group can use our class' interactive whiteboard to participate as well.
Student Response System Apps will let our students enter answers that are shared with the class in real time, on graphical displays.
Students love, love, love using technology in the classroom.
I cannot wait to have groups of students, on a scavenger hunt, scanning objects in the room and having 3D puzzles popping-out at them.
Students will love collaborating and correcting each others work on their own collaborative white board.
No other classroom could squeeze more life out of their tablets than we will, I promise!
