Mr. Delagrange from Louisville GA is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a 3D printer to bring life and meaning to their engineering projects. We create computer models using Inventor and CAD, physical models would be awesome!

My class room is very much hands on. We learn not only by reading but by doing. My students learn to take responsibility for their own learning. I teach the student that they will not always know the answer but we can learn how to find the answers. We do many problem solving activities.
My students come from a low social economic environment.
There are not many jobs and opportunities in our area. The experiences they bring to the class room are very limited. I try to offer them an experience that shows them what opportunities are available through education. We are 80 minority and most are living below poverty. Many of our student have parents that did not graduate from high school. We are rapidly changing those statistics. We are a rural school that has high expectations for our students.
My students engage in many problem solving activities. Students learn the problem solving process and develop prototypes from their ideas. Many times the prototypes are made from wood, or cardboard. Students learn to sketch out their ideas, then us CAD software to create detail sketches. Students also learn to use Autodesk Inventor and Revit builder to model their projects. A MakerBot 3D printer would enhance their problem solving experience as well as give them a glimpse of the capabilities that are possible through technology. For example, one project we do it that the students are asked to design a "Platform" slide-on shoe. They must ware the shoe an maintain a 3/4" platform. There would be many uses of the 3D printer with this one activity such as creating a model of the support system as well as the shoe.
As stated in previously, our students have very little experience with cutting edge technology.
This will enhance their learning experience. A MakerBot 3D printer will bring to life the activities and lessons they learn. It would also be a motivating factor to pursue engineering and technological fields.
