I am asking for an additional 3D printer in my classroom though this grant. Having a 3D printer has allowed my students the opportunity to see a miniature version of what we are discussing within my lessons. For example: my 7th grade civics class was discussing symbols of freedom. As a class we found a 3D scanned file of several monuments and historical buildings located throughout the United States. We then printed miniature versions of the historical location or item; this allowed my students to hold the item and see in detail. Another current example: while discussing trench warfare during The Great War or World War I, we printed a World War I trench boot worn by a soldier. This allowed every student an up-close look at the boot rather than just looking at a picture on the internet. The scans are downloaded from various locations on the internet and uploaded into the software to create these visual aids that I can utilize in my classroom for years to come. I can continue to print items uncovered and scanned. This allows students to hold items that they would only be able to look at on the internet.
Having an additional 3D printer would allow my classes more access to other items.
Additional printers would also allow us to print larger items as well. It would allow printed items to be started quicker therefore the items would be ready for the lesson when the students entered the classroom.
