This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

At our STEAM school, our recipe for success is to mix Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math with our everyday curricula. The finished project is a well rounded education for our students. These devices will allow me to incorporate engineering, science, and art at the same time.

In Silicon Valley, my STEAM school serves a truly remarkable group of socioeconomically disadvantaged students who genuinely love to learn.

Despite some of the hardships my students have faced, my class shows up ready to learn every day! They are a very caring bunch and I would love for them to see that other people (some they don't even know) care about them, too!

My Project

Every Friday, my students work in small groups (their Engineering Teams) to build a project to meet a need. Students use various building sets, think Lego or K'Nex, to build a structure to support 7 textbooks, the tallest structure they can, etc. In addition to this, I am hoping to add a 3D printing station, where students design an object and build it, using handheld 3D Doodle Pens.

Many of my students are from socioeconomically disadvantaged families.

Many families do not have much technology at home, so access to things like Internet or computers are limited. Bringing in these new 3D printers will open up a whole new side of technology that my students don't even know exists. I'm hopeful that this could spark serious interest in science for my class.
