About My Students

Sarcoxie’s 11th grade Physics Class is taking the lead on this project. Kobe, Devon, Nick, Trew, and Meadow are eager to improve the technology and opportunities the science department has to offer. A 3D printer will allow students to become forward thinkers.

My students' developed the idea for the project after Devon's dad got a 3D printer for Christmas and Devon brought some of the printed products to school. The students immediately started brainstorming on how they could utilize a 3D printer in their classroom. From improving science fair projects to creating interesting classroom lab experiments, a 3D printer can benefit the whole school.

A 3D printer is a fun and exciting way to help students at Sarcoxie develop a deeper understanding in science, technology, engineering, and math. With the hope of inciting a passion for STEM that will extend beyond high school into our students future careers. This will also help the students build teamwork skills as they will have to work together to create products.

In Their Own Words

My name is Trew Chapman. I am a junior at Sarcoxie High School. In our Physics class we have been preparing for the upcoming science fair at Missouri Southern State University. As my project, I have chosen to design and construct a helio tracker. Yet, that comes with a larger challenge in itself. Besides the fact of having to make the design, where and how will I be able to come up with such specific parts? A 3D printer resolves the problem of the unique parts as well as opens up more opportunities to make renewable energy resource models, human organ models, etc.

This project will strengthen our leadership skills because we will be at the forefront in technology in Sarcoxie. This means that we will be able to show other students the projects we have created and give presentations to younger classes about 3D printing and how it will affect their future.

When it comes time to learning new things in science or math, some students have a hard time grasping some concepts or just trying to engage themselves. Students in our high school are hands on learners and we believe that a 3D-Printer would strengthen our science capabilities. We know that with the opportunity to better ourselves we will progress to a better understanding of science and technology.
