We are a Title I school as well as a California Distinguished School and a Schools To Watch Model Middle School. My students are used to working hard and rising to the challenges they face. This year, I have been given the opportunity to create a brand new class: STEAM. STEAM is the combination of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math.
The students in my new STEAM class are creative risk-takers who are ready to innovate and engage through hands-on learning.
Rather than teaching my students what to think, I challenge them to think for themselves and develop creative solutions to real-world problems. My students enjoy exploring and demonstrating their knowledge in unconventional ways, and I am excited to continue feeding their curiosity.
My Project
My students need a Makerbot Replicator+ 3D printer, spools of filament, spatulas, and build plates to help them apply 21st-century skills to our STEAM class. 3D printing supports each aspect of STEAM and will begin students thinking about becoming Scientists, Technicians, Engineers, Artists, and Mathematicians. There are endless ways that my students could benefit from having access to a 3D printer.
This Makerbot Replicator+ 3D printer will allow students to develop innovative solutions to real-world problems.
Students can turn their drawings and visualizations into reality as they design and test prototype boats, chains, bridges, towers, and more! The spools of filament will allow my students to design and print in multiple colors. The build plates provide a platform on which to print, and the spatula sets will be used to remove their printed items from the build plates. Together, these resources will help my students explore the skills and traits needed for STEM careers in a fun, hands-on way that they are sure to remember for a lifetime. Thank you for bringing these 3D resources to our class!
