3D Printed Prosthetic Hands by Students (High-needs Special Ed)
My students need gold, silver, glow in the dark, and wood specialty filament to print 3D printed prosthetic hands for children born without hands.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Kamer's classroom raised $648

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Within the NYC Public school system is District 75. District 75 houses the highest needs special needs students and oftentimes, these students also fall into the highest needs economically disadvantaged category. Over 90% of my students fall into this category. We are a 12-month program, where students attend year-round to receive services.
My students are part of the largest school district in the country (the NYC DOE) and fall into the highest needs category.
For years, I have poured my own money into my classroom, but it is not enough! I have reached out to local community members and collected used and refurbished computers, but they do not meet the requirements to run modern software.
I teach grades K-8 and a total of 9 classes, a daily lunch club and a weekly positive behavior intervention club as a reward for students. All students would have access to these resources! That is why today, I am reaching out for global support to help our highest needs students get an equal chance to succeed! We truly need your assistance to level the playing field. Many students come from homes that do not have Internet access or technology, further increasing the achievement gap.
My Project
My students and I recently started printing 3D printed prosthetic hands using our new 3D printer! We are presenting in June, at the District 75 STEM Fair, on the Intrepid! We will be showing the District, students and teachers around the city how they can make their own prosthetic limbs to help children in need!
While learning about 3D printing and developing our hands, we realized that filament brand makes a HUGE difference in print quality!
I have been purchasing different types of filament to see what works best (out of pocket) and got my hands on some Hatchbox filament. The difference is night and day!
Considering we are making these as wearable prosthesis and not toys; it is vital that they are strong, sturdy and durable. If you look back at our past projects, you can see what we have created so far. I will also be teaching educators throughout the city about this fantastic technology at the NYC DOE's Technology Summit "#NYC SchoolsTech Summit" in July. The presentation will be live-streamed and archived for anyone who is interested in following along and seeing your donation in action!
Your donation will not just benefit a handful of students, it will go towards educating literally hundreds of educators as I teach them about this fantastic technology and how we can help children born without hands!
Thank you so much to everyone who has helped bring our past projects to life and going forward!
