Thanks to DonorsChoose.org my class was given molds in which to study geography. My class was able to create one mold for landforms, one for the United States and one for the world. They are a great educational tool that makes learning these concepts fun for students.
I planned to use the recipe inside the box to make clay for the molds. Unfortunately the clay was so hard to press in, and when we finally got it in the mold it was really heavy and hard to work with. The second time we did it we tried clay from the craft store. I purchased several buckets for my students to use. This turned out to also be heavy and hard for students to work with.
Then I discovered Model Magic and though it was pricey I purchased enough for my class to complete their last mold. It worked wonderfully! Students were able to roll it out easily and press it into the molds. It then came out of the molds and after it dried students were able to paint them. It worked great and the project became more about learning a geography concept and not about working with clay.
I would like to use these molds again with my current class. I want them to have the same fun experience with the molds but this time with the resources that work the best.
Proper resources will help to ensure that there is less frustration when students are working. I appreciate all you do to help make this project enjoyable for my class.
