This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Many of our students and families are struggling with homelessness, hunger, violence, and inconsistent home support. We are a Title I middle school. We serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
The art room is a safe and inclusive place for creative expression.
My 240 middle schoolers have little to nothing of formal visual arts education. Sixty of my students have special needs. These students attend their classes in a variety of settings. Depending on their needs, they attend my class with paraprofessionals or attend independently. Those sixty students are spread out throughout the six periods during the day.
Once in the art class, my students have access to the tools and supplies in the art room. Art develops fine motor and problem-solving skills. Art enhances communication and expression.
The COVID-19 pandemic has turned everything on its head. We have returned to the art studio. Your donation to this project will greatly help out our classroom.
Art promotes self-esteem and motivation to succeed.
My Project
Hello! We are back in the art studio. I want to give my students the most hands-on art experience. In every other class they are forced to learn from their computers all day long.
I have requested armature wire and polymer clay for sculpting and gelli plates for printing.
These materials will allow my students to create with their hands and make their mark on their own creation.
Our school community has suffered a lot of loss during the pandemic. The art studio can be a place to (re)build their creative capacity and critical thinking skills with the freedom of using their own ideas. The students can innovate, problem solve, and express themselves; all of which are important skills for life and future careers.
