My students need 7 packs of 6in Styrofoam balls to complete their 3D model of the Earth's interior.
This project expired on January 13, 2015.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
See it, make it, touch it. The Earth's interior is hard for many students to visualize and understand how each component works. Making a 3D model will help students comprehend and see what the Earth's interior looks like.
I teach 6th grade math/science in a magnet program at a middle school in a Southern California urban area.
My students are minority students and most qualify for free or reduced school lunch. My student are eager learners and enjoy a project orientated curriculum. They do several projects throughout the year.
I am requesting 10 packs of 6" styrofoam balls to make a model of the Earth's interior. This project would mean a lot to my students. I have shown them samples of the project and many of my students are eager to do it. There is no Science budget at my school so I would have to purchase or my students would have to purchase all the materials. I am requesting the funds because the styrofoam balls are hard to find in local stores. My students will be able to transform a styrofoam ball into a 3D model of the Earth's interior. This project utilizes science, art, engineering, and geography. Students will have to measure, draw, and paint the correct dimensions of the earth's interior. They will also have to draw to scale the continents and place they appropriately on the styrofoam ball. This project brings science to life for a lot of students especially for kinesthetic and visual learners.
This project will make a difference by putting the necessary supplies in my students' hands to allow them to complete this project.
Without the styrofoam balls, my students will not be able to complete this project. Help bring science to life for my students by donating to this project.
