My students need one MakerBot 3D printing package to create models for scientific inquiry.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Rudd's classroom raised $2,453

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The most exciting part about learning (and teaching!) science are the interactive, hands-on experiments that make once abstract concepts real and tangible. I am hopeful that MakerBot's partnership with Donors Choose can help increase the opportunities for the kinesthetic learning in our classroom.
My students are all enthusiastic and curious learners with diverse talents and skill levels.
While some of them are able to easily complete tasks that are far above their grade level, others struggle with learning disabilities and language barriers. It is a constant challenge to keep all students engaged and intellectually stimulated during lesson and experiments. Unfortunately, our school is classified as a Title 1 school, which indicates that 100% of our students are living at or below the poverty level. Limited finances also limit our student's access technology, both at home and at school .
My Project
I have a vision of being able to create, on demand, any number of scientifically accurate 3-dimensional models that will help increase my student's understanding of what can otherwise be challenging concepts. It's one thing to look at an illustration of a mitochondrion, and another thing entirely to touch and observe it's christae and membranes. There is no doubt that inspecting and manipulating a 3D model of any number of molecules, organs or other biological structures will result in a deeper understanding for my students.
The donation of a 3D printer to my classroom will increase the hands-on learning opportunities for students who are largely visual and kinesthetic learners.
Having this technology available in my classroom will improve my student's understanding of the scientific concepts they need to succeed this year, and in the future.
