Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I love how curious, hands-on, and imaginative my students are. They light up when given the opportunity to create something from scratch, and they take pride in expressing themselves through their work. Many of my students don’t have access to creative tools outside of school, so our classroom is a vital space for exploring their interests and talents.
Sewing machines will open up opportunities for students to learn practical skills like stitching, pattern-making, and textile design.
These skills not only encourage creativity but also build patience, focus, and problem-solving.
A kiln will allow us to bring clay projects to life in a permanent way. Right now, we can only do air-dry clay, which limits what students can make. With a kiln, they’ll be able to explore ceramics fully—creating functional pieces, learning about glazing, and understanding the science behind firing.
