This year my class is a group of high ability fourth graders that I have the pleasure of looping with about half of them from third grade. Located in Muncie, Indiana, our students come from varying socioeconomic and personal backgrounds with nearly sixty percent on reduced price or free lunch. Our school is diverse, as it includes gifted enriched learning, special education and ABA rooms, preschool, and general education programs. Students from outside of our district can travel to our school to be involved in these special education and gifted programs throughout the year.
My students are striving to find their voices and personalities in the world.
I want to support them on that journey in all ways possible including academic, athletic, and social maturity.
Our school provides gifted art and music classes, as well as enrichment success periods throughout the day. There are various clubs and organizations for students to take part in and a phenomenal staff who support each other.
My Project
Last year our class finally got a 3D Printer, but only the filament that came with it! My students would be ahead of the technology curve if at 4th grade they would be able to design something and print it themselves. This project would give them the chance to do just that; it would also give them the choice of color in printing! This might inspire future designers and engineers.
Some of our other STEM project parts have been through many years of students and no longer produce the proper results, so we need to replace them.
We need new batteries that aren't dead, and new light bulbs that haven't been blown! These bits and pieces will help students explore electricity possibly igniting passions for electricians and electrical engineers of our future!
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
